Steve's Shipyard
USS HOUSTON
The USS Houston is a light cruiser of the Cleveland class, and was the 2nd ship during WW2 to bear the name USS Houston. After the sinking of CA30 the heavy cruiser USS Houston in 1942, the citizens of the city of Houston had a war bond drive which produced enough money to build a second USS Houston along with a light carrier USS San Jacinto.
Here are some photos of the ribs, subdeck, deck in July 2009.
During the thanksgiving break the dual stern guns were mounted and much of the superstructure was built.
During vacation in early June 2010 there was time spent rebuilding the superstructure. The first attempt was too heavy (building like a battleship) so the second time around I used 1/16" aircraft plywood decks and a lot more balsa!
